How to navigate inflation in Lebanon
At the moment Lebanon is experiencing extreme inflation.
You cannot withdraw cash from ATMs and most restaurants/stores do not accept credit cards.
Bring plenty of cash in USD, it is advisable to bring small bills ($1 to $50 notes). Expect to pay everything in cash including hotel, food, tour guides, drivers, tips…everything.
All invoices include two prices: LBP at the daily rate, and USD at the fixed rate.
If you want to pay using USD, convert the LBP amount on invoices to USD at the daily rate. Be sure to visit the ‘Lira Exchange’ website and check it daily for live LBP/USD exchange rates.
In case you wish to change your USD for Lebanese Pounds do not exchange at banks but anywhere else. Exchange Bureaus are located across the country, you’ll find plenty in Beirut.
Please check with your hotel when booking if they accept your credit card!
